Overview.

rePurpose Global's flagship project in Hyderabad addresses the plastic pollution crisis in the city

In Hyderabad low-value soft plastics and multi-layered plastics have a recovery rate of less than 5%. These plastics are not recyclable, not collected, and often find the natural environment. The Musi river that flows through the city has been reduced to a sewer filled with garbage and industrial waste. Increased plastic waste and population growth has turned this once a bountiful water body into one of the most polluted rivers in the country.

Through project Neela Sagar, collection of low-value plastic waste is incentivized. Now it was an economic value, it is ethically collected by informal waste collectors from dump sites and other parts of the city. As well as tackling plastic pollution, collectors are able to increase their incomes and receive a fair price for plastic collection.
